Future Federal IT R&D Investments
|
The President's Information
Technology Advisory Committee (PITAC) will be meeting in Washington,
DC on Wednesday, February 7 and Thursday, February 8 to discuss
the next generation of priorities for Federal IT R&D investments
and to review their three latest IT reports. These reports, which
will be available in hardcopy by mid-March, examine specific aspects
of the current Federal information technology research and development
agenda and offer recommendations on how to capture the full potential
of IT in the areas of healthcare, digital libraries and learning.
The Committee will begin its public session on February 7 from 3:00
p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the National Science Foundation (NSF) in Room
1235 with briefings on Cyber Infrastructure issues and Individual
Security, as well as a presentation from the PITAC Digital Libraries
panel.
On Thursday, February 8, the Advisory Committee will continue
its public meeting from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at NSF in Room
1235. The Committee will continue to focus on the new PITAC
reports, which explore the R&D investment and policy requirements
necessary for transforming the way we live, learn, work, and play
through IT. Specifically, the committee will be hearing from its
panels on the Digital Divide, Transforming Learning, Transforming
Health Care, International Issues, Next Generation Wireless and
National Security. In addition, the Committee will be discussing
its plans to update its 1999 report, Information Technology Research:
Investing in Our Future.
The first two reports in the transformation series, Transforming
Access To Government Through Information Technology and Open Source
Software were released in the fall of 2000.
