Professor Cutcher-Gershenfeld presented mid-process findings from stakeholder alignment research on the NSF EarthCube initiative, assessing the social infrastructure for this leading “big data” cyberinfrastructure initiative. Based on survey data from over 850 geoscientists and computer scientists, the presentation will feature innovative methods for specifying stakeholders, identifying interests, and visually representing stakeholder alignment in complex systems. Specific challenges will be identified in sharing data, tools, models, and visualizations across fields and disciplines; as well as underlying theory and principles for stakeholder alignment in complex systems. The research is supported through one of the inaugural NSF INSPIRE grants, bridging multiple directorates with transformational research (NSF EAR 12-49607).
