• The Federal Networking Council (FNC)  (1995-1997) – The Federal Networking Council (FNC) was chartered by the National Science and Technology Council’s Committee on Computing, Information and Communications (CCIC) to act as a forum for networking collaborations among Federal agencies to meet their research, education, and operational mission goals and to bridge the gap between the advanced networking technologies being developed by research FNC agencies and the ultimate acquisition of mature version of these technologies from the commercial sector.

      • PITAC Letter to Congress   (September 1, 1999)   Letter from the President’s Information Technology Advisory Committee (PITAC) expressing concern over pending budget cuts in IT R&D and urging the Congress to ensure full funding for proposed increases in information technology R&D.
      • Implementation Plan for the Information Technology for the 21st Century (IT2) Initiative proposed in the President’s FY2000 budget – this document is an update to the draft Implementation Plan distributed March 5, 1999   (June 1999)

    • Next Generation Internet Initiative (NGI) materials (1996-2000) – On October 10, 1996, the White House announced the Next Generation Internet Initiative, an advanced research program which fosters partnerships among academia, industry and Federal laboratories to develop and experiment with technologies that would enable more powerful and versatile information networks of the 21st century. The program’s overall objective was to perform fundamental research in technologies that would accelerate the development of a highspeed, high-quality network infrastructure to support revolutionary applications.

    • NITRD 20th Anniversary Symposium (February 16, 2012) – The symposium was organized by the Computing Community Consortium, in collaboration with the National Coordination Office (NCO) for NITRD. (The CCC catalyzes and empowers the computing research community to pursue audacious, high-impact research. The NCO supports the planning, budget, and assessment activities for the Federal government’s NITRD program.)

    • NITRD Testimony (1994 – present) – Statements/Testimony by Directors of the National Coordination Office for the Networking and Information Technology Research and Development Program, to the Subcommittee on Research and Science Education of the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology U.S. House of Representatives.


    • President’s Information Technology Advisory Committee (PITAC) (1997 – 2005) – The President’s Information Technology Advisory Committee (PITAC) was authorized by Congress under the High-Performance Computing Act of 1991 (P. L. 102-194) and the Next Generation Internet Act of 1998 (P. L. 105-305) as a Federal Advisory Committee. The Committee provides the President, Congress, and the Federal agencies involved in networking and information technology research and development with expert, independent advice on maintaining America’s preeminence in advanced information technologies, including such critical elements of the national information technology infrastructure as high performance computing, large-scale networking, cyber security, and high assurance software and systems design.
