Notice of Open to the Public Meetings of the Networking and Information Technology Research and Development (NITRD) Program

The NITRD Program holds meetings that are open to the public to attend. The Joint Engineering Team (JET) and Middleware And Grid Interagency Coordination (MAGIC) Team provide an opportunity for the public to engage and participate in information sharing with Federal agencies. The JET and MAGIC Team report to the NITRD Large Scale Networking (LSN) Interagency Working Group (IWG).

NITRD and NAIIO SUPPLEMENT TO THE PRESIDENT’S FY2024 BUDGET

This document is a supplement to the President’s FY 2023 Budget Request to Congress. Following Congressional mandate, the Supplement incorporates budgetary and programmatic information for member agencies of the NITRD Program and for the National Artificial Intelligence Initiative. This report covers FY 2021 actual, FY 2022 enacted, and FY 2023 requested funding levels by agency and Program Component Area for all NITRD R&D programs. It also describes the key R&D programs and coordination activities planned for FY 2023 by the Federal agencies participating in NITRD. This Supplement reports specific agency investments for FYs 2021–2023 for AI and the National AI Research Institutes and for advanced wireless communications. A separate appendix, the FY 2023 Federal Cybersecurity R&D Strategic Plan Implementation Roadmap, lists existing and proposed R&D projects that address critical national cybersecurity needs (https://www.nitrd.gov/pubs/FY2023-Cybersecurity-RD-Roadmap.pdf).

FY2024 FEDERAL CYBERSECURITY R&D STRATEGIC PLAN IMPLEMENTATION ROADMAP

This document provides FY2023 implementation plans for the 2019 Federal Cybersecurity Research and Development Strategic Plan (Plan), developed by the Networking and Information Technology Research and Development (NITRD) Program’s Cyber Security and Information Assurance (CSIA) Interagency Working Group (IWG). This Strategic Plan Implementation Roadmap is provided per statutory requirement for public provision of this information pursuant to the Cybersecurity Enhancement Act of 2014, Public Law 113-274, Section 201(a)(2)(D), Implementation Roadmap, and under direction from the NITRD Subcommittee of the National Science and Technology Council Committee on Science and Technology Enterprise. ANNOUNCEMENT OF NEW NITRD NCO DIRECTOR – DR. CRAIG SCHLENOFF

The Networking and Information Technology Research and Development (NITRD) National Coordination Office (NCO) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Craig Schlenoff as its new Director. Dr. Schlenoff served as Deputy Director for the NITRD Program since September 2023. Dr. Schlenoff joins the NITRD NCO from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), where he served as the Group Leader of the Cognition and Collaboration Systems Group and the Program Manager of the Measurement Science for Manufacturing Robotics Program in the Intelligent Systems Division. He also served as a co-chair for the NITRD Artificial Intelligence Research and Development Interagency Working Group.

FEDERAL HIGH END COMPUTING INFORMATION PORTAL

This portal provides information about U.S. Federal government high performance computing activities, including available computing resources; HEC relevant publications; fellowship and training opportunities; and technology transfer, licensing, and industry engagement opportunities. HEC IWG (Interagency Working Group on High End Computing) agencies provided the information contained in this portal. HEC IWG agencies are involved in various Federal activities in the HEC area including R&D and providing infrastructure and application.

National Artificial Intelligence Research and Development Strategic Plan 2023 Update

NATIONAL ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIC PLAN 2023 UPDATE

This document includes relevant text from the 2016 and 2019 national AI R&D strategic plans, along with updates prepared in 2023 based on Administration and interagency evaluation of the National AI R&D Strategic Plan: 2019 Update as well as community responses to a Request for Information on updating the Plan. The 2019 strategies were broadly determined to be valid going forward. The 2023 update adds a new Strategy 9, which establishes a principled and coordinated approach to international collaboration in AI research.
